M.J. Winkler was chiefly a national State Rights distributor of short animated films, distributing Felix the Cat cartoons produced by Pat Sullivan (1921-1925), Fleischer-produced cartoons by Out of the Inkwell Films, Incorporated (1922-1923), Alice cartoons by Disney Brothers Studio (1924-1925), and the Winkler-produced Krazy Kat cartoons (1925-1926).
Margaret Winkler married employee Charles Mintz in 1924. At some time following, Margaret turned over the company to Mintz who restructured the company to form Winkler Pictures, Incorporated, in 1926.
