Edison [H9495]. Released 19 October 1901. / Standard 35mm spherical 1.33:1 format. / The production was shot on 4 October 1901 at Sandy Hook, New Jersey. This film was included in the longer Edison release Entire Series of Yacht Race Pictures with Dissolving Effects (1901). This is a different production from “Columbia” Winning the Cup (1899).

Documentary.

Synopsis: [From Edison promotional materials] Shows Columbia and Shamrock crossing the line with the Sandy Hook lightship in the background. The yachts were so close together that for some time it was hard to ascertain which had crossed the line first. While Shamrock led Columbia by two seconds, Columbia’s time allowance of forty-three seconds gave her the race and the cup.
