On 9 September 1965, Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax caught lightning in a bottle by achieving the most-prized pitching record, a perfect game. One of the most-difficult achievements in baseball, Koufax blanked the Chicago Cubs, striking out 14 batters on his way to baseball immortality.

Running time: 10:48.

“I would think that the mound at Dodgers Stadium, right now, is the loneliest place in the world.” Listen to Scully’s poetic play-by-play imagery, which vividly paints the scene for radio listeners who were feeling “a million butterflies” along with the fortunate Dodgers Stadium crowd.
