This Blu-ray Disc edition has been mastered from the 35mm restoration print prepared by the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung in Germany. The results are excellent as the picture is finely detailed with a broad range of controlled greytones. Dust, speckling and other print flaws are nearly nonexistant. Some shots are slightly blurry and some have slightly pronounced film grain but that becomes nit-picking as the image is a joy to watch.
The film is presented with a lively music score performed on piano by Neil Brand.
Supplemental material consists solely of audio commentary by film historian Samm Deighan.
This is our recommended home video edition of the film.
