Eve’s Leaves
(1926)
|
This romantic comedy-drama, directed by Paul Sloane, stars Leatrice Joy and William Boyd, with Robert Edeson, Walter Long, Richard Carle, Arthur Hoyt and Sojin Kamiyama.
Joy and Boyd turn in likeable performances. To the production’s credit, Chinese characters are portrayed by Asian actors with the sole exception of main villain Walter Long.

This DVD-R edition has been mastered from a good 8mm reduction print of (what may be) a rerelease version. Dust, speckling, schmutz, exposure variations, emulsion scuffing, mild frame jitters, and other print flaws abound. Digital video glitches flash in and out from time to time. Occasionally, a “Grapevine Video” watermark appears in the lower-right corner of the picture to discourage video pirates (really?). Watchable but there has to be better print materials than this available.
The film is accompanied by a music score composed and performed on virtual theatre pipe organ by David Knudtson. A welcome change from Grapevine’s usual low-fidelity soundtracks.
Recommended as this is the only home video edition of the film we are aware of.
