This DVD-R edition has been produced from original 35mm nitrate prints, a total of 21 reels, recovered by the Serial Squadron in 2003. The missing chapter one has been recreated from the original scenario by live actors rather than rely on synopses and production stills.
The presentation features a new musical accompaniment performed by Curandero.
Supplementary material includes scenes from the lost chapter 11 showing the real Texas Border Patrol of 1919 on parade (5:34); “The People Who Made The Masked Rider,” a slideshow documentary also featuring publicity material photos from the original Masked Rider pressbook (16:54); Chapter 6 with commentary by Tom McGeeney, grandson of Shamrock Pictures owner Patrick McGeeney (17:41); additional commentary by Tom about the Shamrock Pictures studio (18:49); raw footage of scenes from the newly shot footage for chapter 1 with audio and outtakes (23:10); and the Serial Squadron’s Masked Rider trailer that is featured above (3:09).
While this DVD has not been reviewed at this time, we encourage the support of the Serial Squadron who is responsible for many fine home video editions of silent and sound serial films.
