This DVD edition has been mastered from nitrate 35mm print materials held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, which is missing the first reel of Chapter 9.
The serial is accompanied by a music score composed and performed by Andrew Earle Simpson.
The supplemental material includes audio commentary by historian Richard M. Roberts; Flying Cadets (1928), a U.S. Army Air Corps educational short, from a 16mm Kodascope reduction print; a gallery of promotional materials (3 minutes; 23 images); biographies of Andrew Earle Simpson and Richard M. Roberts; and materials on the film from the New York State Board of Censors (2 minutes).
From what we’ve seen, this is a high-quality edition and is recommended. The disc is currently only available through Amazon.com.
