This DVD edition, which is only available as part of the Gary Cooper Movie Legends Collection boxset, has been transferred from a 35mm print that appears to have original color tints (predominantly amber, with a blue night color-toning and rose interior color-tints, and black & white intertitles).
Our first look at the disc reveals a high-quality, slightly faster than natural-speed, full-frame transfer that captures much of the highly-detailed quality of the source print. The extensive use of diffusion filters to soften image details will make some of the cinematography noticeably less-detailed than in the majority of the film. The color tinting flattens the contrast of the picture, quite noticeably in the highlights, that may distract some viewers. But, all that being said, we note that the transfer has been cleaned of nearly all speckling, dust and other flaws, making the net viewing experience a pleasure.
