This DVD edition has been mastered from excellent 35mm print elements held by the Danish Film Institute and the Cinematheque de Toulouse. The transfer runs at a faster than natural pace but it also renders a finely-detailed picture, especially on systems capable of resolution upscaling. The print does have a higher-than-usual amount of dust and speckling, with some emulsion scuffing, hairs on the negative and other print flaws.
The film is accompanied by a music score composed and performed on piano by Ronen Thalmay.
Supplemental material includes the Dreyer film, The Bride of Glomdal, and an insert booklet with essays by Casper Tybjerg and Morten Egholm.
This is our recommended home video edition of the film. North American collectors will need a region-free PAL DVD player capable of outputting an NTSC-compatible signal to view this edition.
