Kino International presents this DVD edition, produced by Stefan Droessler and David Shepard, of William Dieterle’s homosexual-themed film prepared from the reconstructed 1996 35mm restoration print held by the Filmmuseum München. The bulk of the restoration utilizes a censored 35mm print from 1930 held by Gosfilmofond in Russia, with footage missing from the Russian print taken from a 35mm print with French intertitles held by Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek. The original German intertitles were restored from German censorship records.
The film is accompanied by a piano music score by Pasquale Perris or Joachim Bärenz (information is conflicting in the edition).
